Mindless Self Indulgence Bio
Mindless Self Indulgence (commonly referred to as MSI or Mindless) is an American electropunk band, formed in New York City in 1997. Their music has a mixed style including electronica, punk and industrial metal. Their name comes from the CD Mindless Self-Indulgence, a solo album by Jimmy Urine recorded in the mid 1990s.
The band was formed two years later when the other three original members (Steve, righ?, Vanessa Y.T. and Kitty) joined. They have released four albums, two EPs, one live album, and one live DVD. Rather than signing traditional record contracts, the band has preferred to license their albums to record labels, thus retaining ownership of their music. Their latest record is licensed to The End Records.
The band maintains a devout fanbase, and has opened for many famous bands such as Linkin Park, System of a Down, Korn, Staind, Sum 41, My Chemical Romance, Insane Clown Posse, Rammstein and Fu Manchu. They have also participated in the Voodoo Music Experience. They have also had many well known bands open for them such as Tub Ring, Fake Shark - Real Zombie! and Dog Fashion Disco.
In January 2009 the band headlined the Kerrang! Relentless Energy Drink tour, supported by Bring Me The Horizon, Dir en grey, Black Tide and In Case of Fire, though Lyn-Z did not participate due to her pregnancy.
Jimmy Urine formerly Little Jimmy Urine (born James Euringer) does Vocals and Programming for Mindless Self Indulgence. He was born on September 7, 1969(1969-09-07), in New York City; he has an older brother, Markus J. Euringer. The first album he released was Mindless Self-Indulgence, which differed from most of Mindless Self Indulgence's later work, focusing mainly on an Industrial music style. He made most of this album by himself except for guitar by Steve, Righ? on one track. He and Steve, Righ? have a side project called "The Left Rights", a self-produced 39 track album.
He married Chantal Claret, lead singer of the band Morningwood, on January 18, 2008.
Steve, Righ? (Born Steven Montano) plays guitar in Mindless Self Indulgence. He got the name "Steve, Righ?" from someone approaching him at a show saying, "You're Steve, righ?...". He first contributed guitar to "Bed of Roses" on Jimmy Urine's solo album.
He was briefly replaced by Rob Kleiner of the band Tub Ring while he was hospitalized in late 2004 to early 2005 due to a hip injury sustained at a joint My Chemical Romance/Mindless Self Indulgence show. He has had two surgeries on his hip - the first one unsuccessful. According to an interview with Jimmy for Kerrang! magazine, Steve claims to frequently get stopped by the metal detectors at airports due to his metal hip.
Steve has also co-written a handful of songs with Jimmy Urine, such as "Dicks Are For My Friends" and "Seven-Eleven" among others. With Mindless Self Indulgence, he has written the last two songs on the album Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy: "Whipstickagostop" and "Z", both of which he performs the lead vocals on.
He and his wife Lucinda are expecting a baby in the spring of 2009.
