Architects Bio

Architects was founded in 2004 and are currently signed to Century Media Records worldwide and Distort Entertainment in Canada. The band has toured the UK and Europe with bands such as Bring Me the Horizon, SikTh and The Chariot. They have played at a number of independent UK festivals, as well as the Download Festival 2007 and 2009, and Sonisphere 2009. The band have completed a European tour and a Canadian tour, receiving great receptions from crowds in different countries and gradually spreading their fan base. They released their second album Ruin on 26 June 2007, and released a split EP with UK band Dead Swans in early 2008, following the release with a double headed tour of the UK.

They released their third album, Hollow Crown, on January 26, 2009 in UK and Australia. It was released in the USA and Canada on 10 February, Mainland Europe on the 20th, and Japan on the 21st.

In early 2008 Architects toured the US with Suicide Silence, Emmure, Beneath the Massacre, and The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza followed by the European Altamont Never Say Die! tour in November 2008 with Whitechapel, Protest the Hero, Carnifex, Parkway Drive, Unearth and Despised Icon.

The band's success has been gradual. They said in an interview that they were happy when they got signed to Century Media: "We’re really excited to have finally got the deal finished and signed, so much so that we all went out for a pizza the day that everything was finally made 100% official." In January 2010, Architects began recording demos for their fourth studio album, The Here And Now, the follow up to Hollow Crown (2009).

In early 2009 they toured with Parkway Drive on Parkway Drive's DVD Tour in Australia. In October and November 2009 they headlined the 2009 Imperial Never Say Die! tour England dates, whereas Despised Icon headlined the Mainland European dates. The line up was as followed Despised Icon, Architects, Horse the Band, As Blood Runs Black, Iwrestledabearonce, Oceano and The Ghost Inside. They also toured the US as openers on the 2009 Epitaph Records tour alongside Every Time I Die, Bring Me The Horizon, and Oh, Sleeper.

Architects were main support to A Day to Remember on their UK headline tour in March 2010.

Architects played the Australia-wide Soundwave Festival 2010 in late February to early March. They played alongside funk metal legends Faith No More, as well as bands such as Paramore, Jane's Addiction and Placebo.

The band headlined tours of the UK in October 2010 (with Norma Jean, Devil Sold His Soul and Lower Than Atlantis supporting) and Australia in December (with Comeback Kid as co-headliners and This is Hell and Rolo Tomassi supporting). Architects supported Atreyu in a tour of the USA in November 2010.

On 26 August, the band announced that the first single from the upcoming album, The Here and Now, would be entitled "Day In Day Out", and was premièred on BBC Radio 1 to a positive reception from host Daniel P. Carter.

Line-up changes

The band had travelled around the UK on many tours supporting a number of different bands in support of their debut album Nightmares. After a lengthy stint around the country as an opening act to SikTh and Dead Man In Reno, Matt Johnson did not want to be part of the touring lifestyle, so during their first headline UK tour in January 2007 it was announced that the show at Oxford was to be Matt's last with the band. New vocalist Sam Carter joined the band onstage for "The Darkest Tomb" as an introduction to the fans. In February 2011, Architects announced the departure of bassist Alex "Ali" Dean, due to family commitments.

Members other projects and guest appearances

Before Architects, all members of the band had their own musical projects. Sam Carter and Alex Dean used to play together in a band called Fractures. Sam used to play drums before becoming a vocalist, and played drums in a UK hardcore band named Nervous Wreck. He also played drums for This City and did a video with the band prior to joining Architects. This City are still going to this day, and even played the 2009 Download Festival on the Red Bull Bedroom Jam Stage. Alex, Sam and Dan also have a current side project from Architects, a punk band named P*U*N*X.

Sam has also contributed guest vocals to some other bands. He contributed clean vocals on Bring Me The Horizon's 2008 release Suicide Season on the track "The Sadness Will Never End",[7] as well as contributing vocals to Your Demise's album Ignorance Never Dies on the track "All I Never Want To Be". Recently, Sam provided guest vocals for the 2010 Comeback Kid album Symptoms + Cures for the track "Pull Back the Reins", which was recorded close to The Here and Now. In return, Andrew Neufeld of Comeback Kid is providing guest vocals for a track on the latest Architects album.
